Longines Admiral 5-Star Automatic (Ref. 2940-501) – 1967
Caliber 501 | 10K Gold-Filled Case | All-Red Date Wheel (Factory Original)
A beautifully preserved piece from the golden age of Longines design.
This 1967 Longines Admiral 5-Star stands out not only for its deep matte black dial with gilt indices and applied logo, but also for its all-red date wheel — a feature even rarer than the famous “roulette” style found on other Admirals of the era.
While most Longines date wheels alternated between red and black numbers, the U.S.-market pieces cased by Star Watch Case Co. (like this one) occasionally featured full-red numerals for better dial contrast and a sportier aesthetic. Because only a limited batch of 10K gold-filled cases were produced for the American market, examples like this are far less common — making this configuration particularly collectible.
Inside ticks the robust Longines Caliber 501, a smooth automatic movement known for its reliability and refined finishing. Everything — from the sharp dial print to the T SWISS T tritium signature — remains original and beautifully preserved.
